Kenora—Rainy River is a provincial electoral district in northwestern Ontario that has been represented in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario since 1999. It was originally created from the former districts of Kenora, most of Rainy River, and part of Lake Nipigon during the redistribution of provincial ridings to match federal boundaries.
While the Kenora—Rainy River federal riding was abolished in 2003, the provincial riding continues to exist and remains an important electoral district in Northern Ontario.
The district covers a vast and diverse area of Northwestern Ontario, including the city of Kenora, the town of Fort Frances, and many smaller towns, rural communities, and First Nations. Its geography is defined by large stretches of forest, numerous lakes and rivers, and significant natural resources, making it one of Ontario’s most geographically expansive ridings.
Kenora—Rainy River has historically played a vital role in representing northern and Indigenous communities, addressing issues such as healthcare access, transportation, natural resource management, and economic development. Its population is smaller than the provincial average, but its cultural and economic contributions are vital to Ontario.
